Behind the Scenes in Our Shop

One of the parts of my job that is very satisfying is taking an idea in a client’s head, getting it on paper in elevation and 3D drawings and then watching that cabinet come to life in our shop. We have some very talented craftsmen working with us who turn visions into reality. So, close your eyes and come along with me on a tour of the shop today.

In the far back corner, there is a massive garage door where all of our raw materials are brought in on a forklift. Think stacks and stacks of plywood and several different species of raw wood in large bundles. The material is all organized on racks so it’s easy to see what we have and access it when we need to. This wood sits next to our CNC router, which is where all the actual cabinet box parts are cut out. This machine is very precise and cuts material to size, drills holes and cuts slots so the cabinet boxes are ready to be put together.

In the center of the shop, you will see our faceframe table, door making equipment and some large work tables. The faceframes for cabinets are assemble here, cabinet doors made and this is the department where any specialty items are made. If you look up, you will see large silver pipes. This is our dust collection system which is connected to each machine and pipes the sawdust out back to a large dumpster which is then taken to a pig farm once it is full. Many people remark how clean our shop is.

Continuing around the shop, next are the large tables that the actual cabinet boxes are put together on. Once the cabinet are put together, they continue into the sanding booth and that is where holes are puttied and everything is sanded up before continuing to the finish room.

We have 2 finish booths were cabinets are painted and stained. We spray a lacquer and can match any paint color you desire. Once the cabinets are finished, they continue around to the front of the shop where the drawers are put into them, doors and hinges put on, pull out trash cans are installed and decorative hardware drilled for. Once they are finished being assembled, the cabinets hopefully go on a truck to be delivered to the jobsite. On time deliveries are very important to us and we take great care on being at the jobsite when the builder or contractor is ready for us.

Thank you for joining us on our shop tour today! Come see us in person one day. Questions? Email me at Jessica@webbercoleman.com
