Kitchen Trends of the Last Decade

The demands for our kitchen spaces to be bolder, more useful, more organized and bigger were never stronger than in the last decade. Today we will explore the kitchen trends of the last decade. How many of these trends did you embrace?

1. Open Shelving-Traditional upper cabinets were removed and open, floating shelves were added to give the kitchen a more open and airy feel.

2. Matte Black-from appliances, to faucets to cabinet hardware and paint, matte black was definitely in.

3. All White-Thanks in part to Chip & Joanna Gaines and the farmhouse style, white everything including walls, trim and décor provided the blank slate homeowners craved after the super ornate style of the 90’s.

4. Unique Flooring-Hardwoods has traditionally been the most popular for kitchens, but people have been embracing cork, bamboo, tile and LVP.

5. Modern Farmhouse-Thanks to the Gaines’ for their impact on this last decade.

6. Brass & Gold Hardware-Light fixtures, cabinet hardware, faucets and accents were hugely popular this past decade.

7. Gray-This cool, modern neutral color showed up everywhere. Fabric, paint, flooring saw the biggest surges of this color.

8. Cement Tiles-Decorative cement tile, whether on the floor or a backsplash, was a top pick in showcasing your personality in your kitchen.

9. Color-While white was popular, some people weren’t afraid to go bold with their cabinet, tile or appliance colors.

10. Quartz Countertops-clean, modern, antimicrobial, low maintenance-what isn’t to love about quartz countertops?!

11. Smart Technology-Connected appliances, touch activated faucets, smart lighting and virtual assistants like Alexa, smart technology is showing up in a big was in the kitchen.

12. Customized Storage-Every shelf and drawer is fully utilized and organized to give maximum storage and utilization of the kitchen space.
